Since having my daughter a few months ago, I haven't been as organized with planning these activities with my co-leader as I'd like to be. They have each managed to sneak up on me. That definitely happened to me when I realized that I needed to put together a fun Thanksgiving themed activity on the fly and on the (fairly) cheap.
I was straining my brain (not that hard to do these days. ha!), when I remembered a previous Word of Wisdom activity that we did a long while ago with a different group of girls. Basically, the girls sorted foods into categories: Good for the Body, Good in Moderation, and Bad for the Body.
I decided to take this idea and tweak it a little to be a Thanksgiving theme. So I labeled three paper bags with the above categories, and asked the girls to go through a pile of the most popular Thanksgiving foods (you could use words or pictures), and sort them into the appropriate bags.
Good in Moderation was definitely the fullest bag.
Then we put together a cute turkey made of fruit. The girls loved this part, and I was so impressed with how well they did! And then they ate the fruit. The idea behind this was that fresh fruit is good for you, and also that they learned how to make a side that they could easily recreate later for their own families. It was great!
